Friday, June 7th at 10:00AM, a group of runners will set out from Venice Beach, California and start the One Run For Boston Relay. After 319 stages and 3,300 miles, the baton will be exchanged one last time at Boston Commons. When I first heard of this event from Runner’s World, I immediately searched to [...]
I wasn’t going to run my hometown race this year. After five consecutive half marathons, including my first, on this course, I thought it was time to move on. At least, that’s what I told myself last year. Then, in early October, my neighbor Nick, called to me over the fence. “I want to run the Cleveland [...]
Very enjoyable and well timed recovery week in my marathon training. A good marathon plan must have weeks like these built into them. Piling on long run after long run, weekend after weekend will only lead to burnout. Mix things up, have fun for a week, recharge and get back at it. I definitely feel [...]
My Father, a former cross-country coach, loves to say this to my wife and I as we’re sitting around the table. We’ll be talking about running and he’ll look up, smile, and say “Running is the cheapest sport and exercise there is. All you need is a good pair of shoes.” My wife laughs hysterically every time. A few weeks ago I found myself once again looking for some tunes to add to my shorter, 5K-ish, playlists. After giving a handful a fair shot here are four new additions that have made the cut.
Big uptick in mileage this week and the legs have been paying the price for it. Luckily next week is a well timed recovery period on the Marathon training plan. Despite a few more aches and pains than usual, the week ended with a solid half marathon after a light dusting of snow in the [...]
On October 21, 2012 my Uncle (Runcle Ron) and I welcomed a new member to the club. Cousin Kate finished her first half marathon, start to finish, with her Dad. In other news, I finally broke 1:50 on the half marathon.
I don’t run with music nearly as much as I used to. Now that I have Neighbor Nick as a training partner 4 times per week, the iPod is simply an accessory to keep my complete history through Nike+. The other 3 days of the week, I still throw on the headphones, but the playlists [...]
Felt great this week with a strong tempo run Wednesday as the highlight. Changed long run to Friday which cut the total anticipated mileage by about 4 miles. With less than three months until the marathon taper, weeks are about get long and fun (again).
